Adaptation: The Bright Futures Guidelines serves as the standard of care for Medicaid in Michigan. The Michigan Department of Community Health developed templates for preventive care visits based on the guidelines to ensure that providers weave the recommendations into their visits. The Department of Community Health also worked with the Department of Human Services to develop forms built on Bright Futures components for children in foster care.
Training: In collaboration with the Department of Community Health, the Michigan American Academy of Pediatrics Chapter offered trainings on developmental screenings and how to implement them into work processes, how to bill for covered services, and how to refer patients with positive screening results. Additional training is planned for developmental screenings, including for autism, funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration.
